PORTO ALEGRE, Brazil—(BUSINESS WIRE)—Cemvita, a U.S.-based industrial biotechnology company, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Invest RS, formalizing its plan to build a facility in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, for the production of FermOil™. This sustainable oil will be used as a feedstock for the production of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). The plant will also produce FermNPK™, an innovative biofertilizer that supports regenerative agriculture.
Earlier this year, Cemvita announced a partnership with Be8, a biofuels pioneer also based in Rio Grande do Sul, aiming to strengthen the SAF value chain and reinforce Be8’s long-term goal of becoming a leading provider of sustainable biofuel solutions.
The signing ceremony took place at Palácio Piratini with the presence of Acting Governor Gabriel Souza, Invest RS CEO Rafael Prikladnicki, Cemvita CEO Moji Karimi, and Cemvita’s Director of Strategy and Business Development Fernando Borba. The agreement formalizes the company’s intent to establish a sustainable oil production facility in Rio Grande do Sul, consolidating the state as a global hub for innovation in the circular bioeconomy.
“Rio Grande do Sul takes another important step toward becoming a global reference in innovation and the bioeconomy. This partnership with Cemvita strengthens our commitment to sustainability, attracting high-impact investments, and creating opportunities for the people of Rio Grande do Sul in strategic sectors such as renewable energy, agriculture, and industry,” said Acting Governor Gabriel Souza.
The facility will produce low-carbon oil derived from crude glycerin, serving as a feedstock for SAF production. It will also produce a biofertilizer that supports regenerative agricultural practices.
“This agreement with Cemvita marks a strategic milestone for Rio Grande do Sul and reinforces our leadership in innovation and technology. The role of Invest RS is precisely to enable projects like this, connecting companies to our state and providing technical support and tailor-made solutions,” said Rafael Prikladnicki, CEO of Invest RS.
Invest RS offers specialized technical support, institutional liaison, mapping of value chains, identification of industrial areas, and assistance in securing economic and fiscal incentives. The state was strategically chosen for its robust infrastructure, availability of crude glycerin, and solid track record in low-carbon public policies.
“This is a project that combines development and sustainability, fully aligned with the guidelines of our Inclusive and Sustainable Economic Development Plan, and strengthens the state’s business environment by becoming the choice of this American company,” said Deputy Secretary of Economic Development Leandro Evaldt.
The plant will be the first in the world to operate at industrial scale using this bioconversion technology, positioning Rio Grande do Sul at the forefront of global innovation in the circular bioeconomy. The project represents a technological leap that integrates sustainable aviation fuel production with bio-based agricultural inputs, contributing to global decarbonization efforts.
“Brazil, and especially Rio Grande do Sul, are fully aligned with Cemvita’s strategic vision,” said Cemvita CEO Moji Karimi. “The state offers the infrastructure, regulatory environment, and raw materials necessary to scale our waste-to-value conversion platform. We are excited to find public and private partners equally committed to the transition to a low-carbon economy.”
Moreover, AI’s integration into telemedicine and virtual care platforms has made healthcare more convenient, enabling patients to access medical advice and treatment remotely. By automating routine administrative tasks, AI also reduces human error and administrative burdens, allowing healthcare professionals to focus on what matters most: providing personalized care to their patients.
