Cemvita announced an offtake agreement with United Airlines for the supply of up to 1 billion gallons of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) over 20 years, produced from CO₂ at Cemvita’s first full-scale SAF plant. The contract provides for up to 50 million gallons annually.
According to Michael Leskinen, President of United Airlines Ventures, the partnership is a strategic step in the face of a global shortage of available SAF, and Cemvita’s technology offers the potential for large-scale production with minimal land, water, and energy requirements.
Cemvita highlights that its platform can deliver reliable feedstock, potentially with a carbon-negative footprint, aiming to be cost-competitive with existing HEFA biofuels. For Moji Karimi, CEO of Cemvita, the agreement is a milestone toward full commercialization and transformation of the aviation sector.
United Airlines is the global leader in SAF investment and operates initiatives such as the UAV Sustainable Flight FundSM, the Eco-Skies Alliance program, and investments in decarbonization technologies including carbon capture, hydrogen-electric engines, electric regional aircraft, and air taxis. The company’s goal is to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050 without relying on traditional carbon offsets.
